Well, the WB seems to be lightening up a bit. Remember the days when they had a fit over Jessica Biel of 7th Heaven fame doing an almost nude shoot for Gear magazine? Luckily those days are over, cause they never would’ve allowed Barry Watson (7th Heaven), or Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville) to star as bosom buddies with Harland Williams in Sorority Boys, a raunchy crossdressing, naked-shower-scene-filled movie that turned out to be a pleasant surprise to me. The movie focuses on Watson, Rosenbaum, and Williams as frat brothers in the Kappa Omega Kappa house or KOK…get it? The three are the stereotypical fraternity slackers and get kicked out of their house by getting framed by their president who felt like they were under minding his authority. I don’t want to give too much away in respect to the story, but it truly doesn’t matter what the story is. Truth be told that in the midst of all the clichés you could imagine, the movie houses some serious funny moments that had me laughing out loud. As hard as I think it is to by pass a G rated television series, or a movie like Teaching Mrs. Tingle, I felt Barry Watson did a hell of a job. Rosenbaum and Willimas are not virgins to the major motion picture market and both delivered hilarious performances as well. What I felt stuck out in this movie is how even when the guys in the KOK house realize how horribly they’ve been treating girls, thanks to a speech by Watson still in a dress, the girls of the Delta Omicron Gamma house (DOG house) don’t really get any better looking, the guys just look at them differently. In most movies that try this, they usually just dress a hot girl in loose clothes and put her hair up and maker her wear glasses. Anyone see She’s All That? Anyway, I think that aspect showed some true growth in the characters, as unrealistic as it may have been. Sorority Boys is raunch filled fun with lots of T and A and a funny script by first timers Joe Jarvis and Joe Coolidge. As hard as it is to bring those two aspects together, ala Slackers, a good job has been done here, and make this movie worth your hard earned cash.
