The Top Three Comic Book Adapted Superhero Films

What’s happening fans, movie lovers, and true believers? Gary here with your latest Film Monthly rant and one of the first ever Film Monthly polls, this one about comic book adapted superhero films. First I would like to thank those of you that read and supported my previous FM rant titled, “Assholes at the Movies”. If you haven’t read it check it out in the archives, groundbreaking material there. Anyhow I recently took a road trip from Chicago to Las Vegas. A 29-hour car ride for those asking. While driving with some of my “normal ” friends, lets call them Jimmy, Chief and Stefanie, “normal” meaning non movie-geeks-able to function in society without support from the Jedi council type people, I tried sparking up a conversation about the continuing trend of mainstream superhero films. My friends each gave me the “shut up you boring geek, you’ve been running your mouth for 1200 miles” look, but eventually I got them talking. We listed as many comic book adapted super hero films as we could think of and then came up with this little bit of interactive goodness.

Here’s how this FM poll is going to work. Email us your top 3 favorite comic book adapted superhero films.

Listen closely to the guidelines:

  1. The films have to have existed as a comic book before being adapted into a movie.
  2. By saying super hero films we are including the likes of Hellboy and Howard the Duck because in a way they are heroes. This category won’t include films like American Splendor and Ghost World. They are pure dramas and don’t quite fit the bill of what we are going for.
  3. Only list your top 3 please. And only vote once, with one email account. Don’t make up a bunch of email accounts you are never going to use and send in a bunch of different crap. Don’t act like a jackass.
  4. We are talking about American cinema comic book adapted super hero films. Did all you film geeks get that? Don’t come at me with some obscure Asian bootleg or the crappy low budget Fantastic Four movie that was made in the 90’s and never released.
  5. With that said, email all responses to fmpoll@excite.com. The email heading should read, “FM My 3 Superhero Votes.” The deadline for votes is April 15, 2005.
Here’s the list we came up with to inspire you. I’m sure we have missed something, so if you come up with a film not on this list that you want to vote for please include it.

A couple of notes from the Vegas crew and myself. Jimmy’s favorite comic book movie was Batman Forever because, “Chicks dig the car.” Chief liked Superman 2 the best because, “The guys in black vinyl and spandex were cool.” Uh, yeah sure Chief. Stefanie liked Howard the Duck the best. Jimmy, our Publisher Del Harvey and myself agreed with her because it’s cool to see Caroline in the City have sex with a talking duck.
  1. Spider-man 2
  2. The Crow
  3. Batman Returns
Because this is a rant it is my opinion versus the world. Obviously my choices are the three best super hero films ever made (thus far). We have a wall crawling human spider directed by the master, Sam Raimi. A Batman film with Christopher Walken and missile guided penguins. And a movie so dark and hardcore that it’s star was killed during the filming of it, yes the late Brandon Lee. So there’s what you learned so far! Deal with it. Rant, rant, rant, blah, blah, blah let’s get some votes in!! Thanks!

Again, the deadline for votes is
