All I can say is, “Wow…”. If you’ve never seen The Sarah Silverman Program, then you should definitely give it half a chance. However, I must warn you that it is rude, crude and sometimes makes even makes me want to gag. But, it is very funny, highly creative and one of the most cutting-edge comedies on t.v. today.

Airing on cable’s Comedy Central Network, The Sarah Silverman Program is about to enter it’s third season, premiering Thursday, Feb. 4th at 10:30 ET. There were 6 episodes in season 1 and 16 in season 2, leading me to believe 16 will be slated for 2010.

The series stars Sarah Silverman playing a mock character of herself; an immature, unemployed woman whose wacky and self-absorbed antics come across as childish and just plain rude. Often times she breaks into song, usually a lyrically bizarre tune that summarizes her current hi-jinx.

Laura Silverman(Sarah’s real-life older sister) stars as Laura, Sarah’s younger sister who is a registered nurse and helps take care of her older sibling by paying her rent and other living expenses. This is most likely due to the two being very close from their parents passing away at an early age and the manipulation Sarah uses against her to fulfill selfish and useless wants and desires. Brian Spukowski(Brian Posehn) and Steve Myron(Steve Agee) play Sarah’s neighbors and friends- an overweight, reclusive, pot-smoking gay couple who Sarah and Laura went to high school with. The group usually meet every morning at the local coffee shop for breakfast, with Brian and Steve usually ending up getting themselves caught in some exploits of their own.

Finally there is Officer Jay McPherson(Jay Johnston), the man who Sarah vows to kill due to the fact that he starts dating her sister, which Sarah sees as a threat to the close relationship she shares with Laura. Jay tries to be cordial and help Sarah out when he can, even though he really can’t stand her. His love for Laura seems to be the only reason for his civility towards her older sister. The show usually ends with Sarah lying in bed with her dog Doug(whom she found in the trash), summarizing the life lesson she has learned in the episode.

Episode 1 is entitled “The Proof Is In The Penis”, in which Sarah finds out she was born with both sexual organs. “The Silverman and The Pillows”, Episode 2, has Sarah ending up as a children’s, story time host that delivers ‘real life’ messages instead of run-of-the-mill, campy ones.

So, definitely make the time for this week’s season premiere of The Sarah Silverman Program. Be ready to laugh and think to yourself, “They’re really showing this on t.v.?!
