It seems like the Hallmark Channel is jumping the gun a little. Last week they had Thanksgiving programming, and this week it seems to be the beginning of their Christmas holiday programming. It’s the third installment in their The Good Witch series, this time The Good Witch’s Gift.

Catherine Bell returns as Cassie Nightingale, the witch who runs a gift shop and bed-and-breakfast. She and her fiancĂ©, Jake Russell (Chris Potter), the chief of police there in Middleton, have been engaged for months, but have been unable to set a date, both being too busy. He wants to get Cassie the perfect Christmas gift, and decides he’ll get her the one thing she always wanted, a family. He wants to get married on Christmas Eve.

It’s far from smoothing sailing before the special day. Jake catches sight of a familiar-looking man walking around town, and his fears are realized. It’s Leon Deeks (Graham Abbey), who has just gotten out of prison, having served ten of a fifteen-year sentence for a robbery there in Middleton. Since Jakes was the guy who was behind putting him away, he isn’t sure what type of business Leon has being back in town.

Things aren’t going well for the immediate families of Cassie and Jake. Jake, his son and daughter Brandon and Lori (Matthew Knight and Hannah Endicott-Douglas), all live with his father, and their grandpa isn’t too happy that they’re growing older and don’t have a lot of time to spend with their grandpa and his pre-holiday celebrations. Brandon’s girlfriend, Jodi, isn’t happy with what’s going on at her house, either. Leon is her biological dad and it seems the real reason he’s back in town is to set things right and possibly get a second chance.

And somehow fitting into all of this is the mayor informing his socialite wife, Martha (Catherine Disher), that their finances aren’t what they once were, and he’d like her to get a job. It goes without saying that he’d like her to stop spending money as well. Items and money start disappearing around town, but it might not be the likely suspect.

Somehow it’s up to Cassie and Jake to make sure the families get everything sorted out by the holidays to ensure that they start their own new family off on the right foot. The Good Witch’s Gift makes its early holiday premiere on the Hallmark Channel on November 13.
