Warner Home Video has released both DVD and Blu-ray/DVD Combo versions of Chernobyl Diaries on October 16th. Extra material featured on the DVD release includes a Chernobyl Conspiracy Viral Video. The Blu-ray/DVD Combo release also includes “Uri’s Extreme Tours Infomercial,” an additional scene, and an UltraViolet digital copy of the film.

Written by Oren Peli, whose three Paranormal Activity films have grossed over half-a-billion dollars and is the creator of ABC’s The River, a horror-thriller set deep in the Amazon rain forest.

Chernobyl Diaries is set in the city of Prypiat that once housed the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, the horror-thriller follows a group of six young vacationers who, looking to go off the beaten path, hire an “extreme” tour guide. Ignoring warnings from locals and sentry guards, he takes them into the city of Pripyat, the former home to the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, but a deserted town since the disaster more than 25 years ago. Once inside, our travellers find themselves stranded in the abandoned city only to discover that they are not alone.

Chernobyl Diaries relies upon the same fright schemes as Peli’s Paranormal Activity films. The difference here is a much higher quality production and a cast which includes more seasoned performers, such as Devin Kelley (Chicago Code), Jonathan Sadowski ($#*! My Dad Says, Live Free Or Die Hard), Nathan Phillips (Wolf Creek, Snakes On A Plane), Ingrid Bolso Berdal (Cold Prey I and II), among others.

There are several unexpected twists and turns (be sure to look out for the “radioactive bear” scene) which help place Chernobyl Diaries among your “shows to watch” list this Halloween!

Available as of October 16th on DVD and BluRay Combo Pack from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
