Shatner’s World

| April 22, 2014

Canadian actor William Shatner, who is best known for his portrayal of Captain Kirk on the original Star Trek series, brings his critically acclaimed one man show to cinemas across the country this Thursday.  A charismatic and energetic storyteller, Shatner promises to bring his long and varied career to life through anecdotes, humor, and heartfelt moments.

I don’t know what to expect exactly from the show.  I’ve always enjoyed Shatner turning up in everything from half-hour sitcoms to hour long dramas  to commercials and Oscar cameos.  he comes across as a fun and engaging person, and I for one can’t wait to see what this one-man show has to offer.

I don’t have a lot of experience with one man shows.  I once took a class in the medium, but that was all writing fictional plays with one character.  For the class, I had to read some one man non-fiction, and I thoroughly enjoyed comedians Marc Maron and Mike Birbiglia doing their own one man shows with Thinky Pain and My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend respectively.  The simple format of someone sitting on an empty stage and having a one-sided conversation with the audience has a lot of potential when done well, and given the reviews Shatner’s World has already received, it should be a really fun evening at the cinema.

Shatner’s World will come to theaters nationwide for one night only on Thursday, April 24.  Check out for a list of theaters near you, times, and ticket prices.
