Just in time for the release of the movie “Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny” Titan Books has released the companion book by the same title “Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny”. This is a nice companion piece to the film, which features an interview with the stars and co-writers Jack Black and Kyle Gas along with an absolute ton of great pictures and excerpts from the motion picture’s script.

If you have been living under a rock you might ask, “what is Tenacious D?” I might be inclined to answer the way Jack Black would by saying, “A band that defies description. Some have said the greatest band of all time.” Long before Jack Black was a household name starring in movies like “School of Rock” and “King Kong” he was the front man for one of the greatest rock bands ever, “Tenacious D”. Along with Kyle Gas the lead guitar player and only other member of the “D”, (as they are referred to by loyal fans) JB and KG had a short-lived show on HBO in the late 1990’s. They then released a self-titled album in 2001 that featured several guest musicians including Dave Grohl of the “Foo Fighters” and Page McConnell of “Phish”. The “D” toured for several years spreading their brand of acoustic rock across the nation. Then in 2004 they started working on their feature film debut “Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny”. This book accompanies that movie which chronicles the origins and adventures of “Tenacious D’s” early years, how they met and planned to conquer the world.

This book is a nice companion piece and Titan Books generally does a great job on their movie related material. However this book is mostly picture oriented and doesn’t really offer as much unknown or insider information that the film geek in me craves. However it is very humorous and has a great interview with Jack Black and Kyle Gas as they narrate their journey to accompany the images found inside. I do suggest reading this book after you have seen the movie because it is essentially a narration of the films’ events and contains spoilers. www.titanbooks.com
