2007 was an unusual year in film. The nominees for the year's best films at the Academy Awards bear that out.
There has been no limit to the quanitity of films over the previous year, but we have seen an increase in the number
of darker mainstream films. And just this week came the news of a very great loss to the film community in the
death of Heath Ledger. But his outstanding abilities will be seen in next year's second entry in Chris Nolan's "The
Dark Knight," although I don't believe many of us will be able to view the film without realizing the tragedy.

However, we had plenty of silly and sappy films in 2007 to remind us that much good did come out of the year.
Here, then, are our staff's picks for best and worst films of the year 2007.
