THE VERY, VERY BAD THAT WERE NOT REMAKES:

The Groomsmen - what horse hockey. I almost walked out on it.

Barnyard - Animated pabulum. ENOUGH of animated films about animals in trouble who get out of it.

The Phoenix Lights - an independent film about UFOs. Actual footage: about 25 seconds. Length of movie: about 90 minutes. You be the judge. This was seven years in the making. Should have taken 10 and maybe you would have gotten more footage.... or decided it really was a bad script.

Dark Arc - a small, independent film you missed. Be glad. Be very, very glad. Steaming piles of maggot infested dog droppings. Writer/Director/Star Dan Zukovic should not even be allowed to see a film, let alone make another one.

RV - oh, Robin, what hath thee done for a large paycheck?

My Super Ex-Girlfriend - didn't live up to its Trailer/Warning.

Dreamgirls - OK, so I am the only reviewer who put it on his worst 10 list. I can live with that

Running with Scissors - Possibly the worst movie of the year, but I didn't see every piece of shit.

Hoodwinked - I forgot I saw this until I went through the list of reviews.

BORAT cultural learnings etc. - The only reason this is on my worst list is that the INTERMINABLY LONG trailer/warning had most of the good jokes in it. Someone has to take a stand against 12 word titles... and its going to be me. Look for BORAT to be the Napoleon Dynamite of the year.

And as always: The Blair Witch Project - Still the reason I started doing reviews... and things have not gotten any better.

MY FAVORITE MOVIES OF THE YEAR
THAT YOU SHOULD SEE:

Flags of our Fathers / Letters From Iwo Jima - I put these two together because Clint Eastwood directed two unbelievably wonderful movies about the same historical event. Take 4 hours and rent them both if you miss them in the theaters.

Little Miss Sunshine - When I saw this early in the year, I said it should be up for Best Picture. Glad Hollywood listened to me.

Curious George - Best kid movie of the year. Should have been up for best animated.

Children of Men - Cinematically, one of the best of the year. This is a very disturbing movie, but it is a total must see.

An Inconvenient Truth - Al Gore doing a presentation on power point? Holy cow, the sky IS falling.

Children of Men was about a possible problem facing the human race. "Truth" is about a very very very REAL phenomenon which could destroy life as we know it. Melissa Ethridge's song "I Need To Wake Up" should be best original song.

Thank You For Smoking - Death is always a dark subject, but Aaron Eckhart makes it hilarious.

The Notorious Bettie Page - Gretchen Mol... ok, from a total PERV point of view... DAMN!!!! WOW!!!

Cars - a very cute movie. James Taylor's song got nominated which is great.

The U.S. vs. John Lennon - I am still not sure that the FBI was not copying down license plate numbers of those of us who saw this film.

A Prairie Home Companion- Lindsey Lohan stays sober. If you enjoy the radio show, you will love the movie.

The Devil Wears Prada - this comedy got a bit of Oscar consideration and was worth it.

We Are Marshall - the New Rudy of football movies. If you don't cry, you were too busy eating your popcorn.

The Queen - OK, so the whole Diana is Dead thing didn't really effect me. This movie did. FANTASTIC performance by Helen Mirren. Not to be missed.

The King of Scotland - When this movie came out, James McAvoy was getting all the attention as the lead and Forest Whitaker was "also in it." Whitaker will get an Oscar for this film PLUS all the other incredible work he has done in Hollywood. Like Scorsese in The Departed.

Pursuit of Happyness - Will Smith adds another great role to his ever expanding collection of good performances.

REMAKES, NEXT IN SERIES - BAD

Rocky 6 - Why the fuck was this made? oh yea, money

The Santa Clause 3 - Fuck, this sucked worse than...

Basic Instinct 2 - no reason to add to this series, but Sharon Stone looked better here than in Alpha Dog (see my worst movies of 2007)

Ice Age 2 - Ya couldnt just leave it at one, could ya?

Poseidon - SUCKED

The Omen - Hollywood assholes remake a classic horror flick and it sucked.

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift - are you kidding? One was tolerable, two bad... three or more? Unforgivable

Pirates of the Caribbean 2 - too long, too much CGI

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: New Beginning - what is the point? oh yea, money

Saw 3 - what is the point? oh yea, money

The Pink Panther - Peter Sellers is looking down and saying "tsk tsk tsk"

Shaggy Dog - another bad remake. If only Lindsey had dropped her top instead of Herbie dropping his.

REMAKES, NEXT IN SERIES - GOOD

Final Destination 3 - not as good as the first two, so maybe it's time for Death to win Scary Movie 4 - ok, so this was funny. Mission Impossible III - better than II but still hate watching Tom Cruise run X-Men: The Last Stand - something tells me this wasn't really their last stand Clerks II - the best sequential movie released this year Miami Vice - borderline approval James Bond - Casino Royale - I am a sucker for the "Bond, James Bond" series.

MOVIES I HAVE NOT SEEN YET BUT NEED TO:

Jesus Camp

The Departed

Babel

Happy Feet

Pan's Labyrinth

THREE MOVIES - THREE TITLES - SAME MOVIE?

Failure to Launch / You, Me and Dupree / The Break Up

SOME VERY GOOD MOVIES:

World Trade Center - Nicolas Cage is amazing. Could have been nominated for lying on his back for two hours.

Accepted - Stupidly funny

Invincible - if only Wahlberg was 4 inches taller. I could not see him as a football player in the NFL.

Aurora Borealis - Small independent film that is very worth hunting down on DVD.

The Night Listener / Man of the Year - The "better" Robin

Blood Diamond – Who ever knew that DiCaprio could act? I was very happy to have seen this. Look for Djimon Hounsou to win the supporting actor award.

The Good German - Attempted to relive the 1940's style but they used words like FUCK. Never would have appeared in movies of the period.

The Good Shepherd - Take away the 20 minutes of Damon walking around in his overcoat and this is a very exciting film.

Miss Potter - A very sweet movie.

Notes on a Scandal - Dench and Blancett get nominated. Disturbingly good.

Night at the Museum - great idea. But I am so done with Ben Stiller. He needs a good serious role to reinvent himself.
